Plate armor (n.)

  • A historical type of personal armor made from iron or steel plates. Full plate armor was developed in the late Middle Ages, especially in the Hundred Years’ War, from the coats of plate worn over mail suits during the 13th century. In Europe, plate armor reached its peak in the late 15th and 16th centuries.
